Evolution of My Preferences in Music

I don't know when did I first listen to rock music, but all I can remember is that it has been a part of my life ever since. I remember a break out of original Filipino rock on LA 105.9, early 90's. I was switching from NU 107, LA Rock, and LS FM. Back then, there was a bombardment of alternative bands. It was a time when Guns N Roses, Metallica, and Bon Jovi were kings of the rock airwaves but at the same time, there was a heavy proliferation of the grunge bands. The grunge scene was IT then. Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Candlebox, and of course, Pearl Jam were rising stars. Filipino rock saw the rise of the Eraserheads, Rivermaya, The Dawn (resurgence), Introvoys (woohoo), Philippine Violators, The Youth and others. Good thing about the Filipino rock scene was that there was a variety of sound. There was grunge, metal, death and pop rock.

Back then, the grunge scene was the bandwagon. Some kids were dressing up as grunge. Later, it was all a fad after all because majority of these grunge bands are all gone. Only Pearl Jam seems to be the only band remaining. Metal soon replaced grunge, at least for my preference. I switched to Metallica, Pantera, and Sepultura. I was also into Dream Theater as I was a bandmember and was fond of technical bands. This fondness of technical bands led to me to discover other genres of music. I soon found out about mainstream jazz. I got hooked to basslines and grooves. I started listening to Jamiroquai, Incognito, Brand New Heavies.

Now, I still listen to all kinds of music. I continue to have a broad horizon when it comes to music and continue to appreciate talent when I HEAR it.
